Is Tatcha Worth the Hype? My Honest Skincare Review

A month ago I decided to see what all the hype around Tatcha was about and ventured out to buy MULTIPLE products from the skincare line. I’ve been using it for a month now and I definitely have some things to say. This brand has some pretty high prices so it took me a good amount of time to actually decide if I should try them out.

Before I start this review, I have combination skin. I am mostly oily in my t-zone, but not too oily to where I can fry an egg on it. It just produces a bit of shine, you know not too oily- but it’s not dry. Other than that, the rest of my face is pretty normal to dry. I have a bit of texture and don’t really break out in big zits. I do feel like I deal with dryness under my skin if that makes sense. So although I’m combination, I like my skin to feel really hydrated and plump!

It’s always complicating trying to describe skin type because everyone’s skin is so different on so many levels and I’m definitely not a dermatologist.

On to the reviews!

WHAT WASN’T WORTH

The Deep Cleanse – $38

8/22/2020 Update: I still continued to use this cleanser and have found that it works best if I use it on and off, and not as a daily cleanser. When I used it this way, I found that it did make my skin softer and gently took off my dead skin. It also lasted for a while, so honestly I may buy again in the future!! Although it’s in this section, my mind has changed. I’m leaving my first review so you all can see my initial impression.

This cleanser is supposed to be good for normal, oily, combination, and sensitive skin. It’s a daily gel cleanser that has natural fruit exfoliant. It claims to unclog pores while leaving skin soft and hydrated. Did it unclog my pores? I think so? I feel like it’s definitely shrunk them a little, but it didn’t leave my skin soft and hydrated. After cleansing my face and allowing it to dry, I was left with a tight feeling. That feeling when you scrunch your face and everything feels a bit crackly. When you get this feeling, you already know that the cleanser isn’t for you.

The exfoliant and foamy consistency may have been the reason for this. Overall, I didn’t think this cleanser lived up to my expectations. It may work better for people who are predominantly oily because this dried out my skin too much.

For a cleanser from a high-end brand, the price is pretty reasonable so it’s too bad I didn’t really like it.

Side note: I did use lukewarm water whenever washing my face. I also stopped using it for 2 days and some of the texture on my forward disappeared.

The Water Cream – $68

I know so many rave about this product, but I’m sorry to say that it didn’t really WOW me. It may not have been the best moisturizer for my skin type and I understand. I only used this during the day and found myself using so much of it in order to feel hydrated. I started to use hydrating serums under it to achieve the hydration I needed. So for $68 + having to use a hydrating serum prior to applying just isn’t worth it for me. This product along with the deep cleanse shrunk my pores a bit, but didn’t get rid of my texture or do other things that I expected it to do given the prices they’re at. Not worth.

WHAT WAS WORTH

The Dewy Skin Cream – $68

This cream felt really thick at first, but as soon as my skin got used to it, it was super hydrating and felt really good to put on at night. It’s like it replenished my moisture while I slept.

Although I liked it, it was a bit greasy. A little goes a long way so I feel like the regular jar would last a long time especially if you only use it at night. I think it would be too heavy as a day cream. This wasn’t the best cream I’ve tried, but I do think it’s worth the hype and money. Would I buy it again? No, lol because there’s definitely nicer creams out there for a lower price.

The Dewy Skin Mist – $48

THIS. Y’all. This skin mist is WORTH. It gives you such a nice glow when you set your makeup with it. It doesn’t make you look oily nor does it feel heavy on the skin. It’s literally a light ass mist – it feels like you’re not even spraying your face, but trust that it’s spraying you! That’s how lightweight it feels. If during the day I feel like I’m producing too much oil, I’ll go in and spritz my face with their satin skin mist to tone the oil down, but also to keep the light glow.

The Satin Skin Mist – $48

I love how the mist sprays on the skin. It’s not a mist, but instead a spritz and it sprays all over my face evenly. It doesn’t spray randomly big drops on my face like some other face sprays.

The satin skin mist also doesn’t look too matte or wet on my face. It’s the perfect formula to where it makes my skin look… satin! Just like what it says on the bottle!

Silk Canvas Primer – $52

The primer blurs my pores and makes my skin look sooooo smooth. I would usually use liquid primers and it doesn’t give me the same look as the Tatcha primer. It’s not a liquid so you have to rub the primer and apply it to your face instead of pumping it out like most primers. The consistency is thick, but light enough to blend into the skin without sliding everywhere. It has a satin feeling which I looooove.

Expensive, but I think it’d last a while. One con is that I feel like it can get icky because it’s a primer you rub your fingers on. Icky as in getting lint and particles easily on the primer.

I also had a mini version of their Violet-C Vitamin C mask, but it was only enough for two applications. It wasn’t enough to see any difference. I’d buy the full size to see if it really changes my skin, but that’s for next time!

Let me know if any of these products worked differently for you! Everyone has different skin types so I’m curious to see if it worked differently for others.
