Ok I’m afraid I bit off more than I could chew with this writing challenge, especially as I balance my corporate role while transitioning to full-time freelancing. So let’s update this challenge to complete one of these 30 prompts at least 2x a week until I’ve written for all of them. This way I could be more realistic with my bandwidth and truly commit to it. Consistency really is better than false promises.
So moving forward, I’ll be posting my writing challenge at least 2x a week – not sure what days, but it’s a good start for a consistent cadence. I’m on my fourth prompt, which I’m super happy about. Because it’s more posts and writing I’ve done in a month since starting my blog I think. And it’s me just writing out my thoughts without overthinking it.
Today’s prompt is 5 Beauty Products That Actually Changed My Routine. As I thought about this, I reflected on my old skincare routines in college, which were a lot more simple than my current one. And my skin was so clear, BUT I was on birth control, which honestly I’m pretty sure was the main reason why my skin was so clear. Ever since I stopped taking birth control in 2021, it has been a journey trying to figure out my new skincare routine. I get hormonal acne and I’m still trying to find a routine that actually sticks and consistently gets rid of my acne – or help keep my hormonal acne at bay. What I do know is that the most simple routines were the ones where my skin was the clearest. Maybe because I wasn’t overloading my skin with lots of products.
Being a creator in the beauty industry is fun because you could try lots of products. But at the same time, trying new products every month could also make your skin angry. So it’s about finding that balance of which items you’ll welcome into your skincare routine and which items you could wait to add. This is something that I’ve been dealing with lately.
My budget mindset is not wanting to buy skincare if I already have something, but at the same time, I want to buy what I know works for me because there has been fair share of times where I’ve had an inconsistent skincare routine that angered my skin.
I do have a few products that I’ve consistently bought and would recommend, so if I could only choose to do my skincare with 5 products, this is what I would do:
- La Roche Posay Lipikar Wash AP+ Gentle Foaming Moisturizing Wash – A simple, hydrating cleanser that removes makeup and makes my skin feel refreshed. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry.
- Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment – 10/10 no notes. Makes my skin look smooth and refined. Honestly the whole Sunday Riley brand – I would drop everything and have a full Sunday Riley routine tbh. It’s just so pricey to keep up with, so I like to have a good balance of drugstore and luxe skincare. I’ve not been disappointed by any of their skincare products.
- Cocokind Ceramide Serum – The difference you see and feel takes some time, but it’s worth it. My skin just felt so hydrated, healthy, and plump after about 2 bottles. Good skincare takes time.
- The INKEY List Bio-Active Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturizer – Love how rich and creamy this moisturizer is. Keeps my skin hydrated and is super affordable.
- Peach & Lily Glass Skin Veil facial mist and some type of spring/mineral facial spray (I know 2 diff products, but just needed to mention them both!) – When I started using these products, I didn’t realize how much I needed them until I used it. I love using the glass veil mist to refresh my face throughout the day. It’s also a really nice added step while I’m doing my skincare routine. As for spring/mineral sprays – you might just think “Isn’t it just expensive water?” Yes, but it has a purpose. If you experience pilling, this helps your skin absorb the product.
What are your top 5 skincare products?
