Ever since shelter in place started, we’ve been more connected on the Internet than ever. It can get overwhelming, and lately my anxiety levels have been very high. I have been on autopilot, working my 9-5, working on my brand, and working on my blog, and I haven’t really taken PTO until the past weekend. We’re more than halfway done with the year, so it bewilders me that I haven’t taken a break yet. It’s probably obvious, but this is not healthy for anyone’s personal well-being. We need a break every once in a while.
I felt like when I was at home, if I wasn’t working on my blog or brand, I was being unproductive, and it would ultimately stress me out and make me anxious. To make it worse, I’d get on social media and look at the accounts that were where I wanted to be at, and it would stress me out even more. No bueno.
I needed to disconnect. From work and from social media.
For my sister’s birthday, my family and I (safely) traveled to Lake Tahoe to get away. I wasn’t fully disconnected, but I was disconnected enough to rejuvenate and relax. Plus, I’m my happiest when in nature. It doesn’t surprise me though, because when I’m in nature, I’m not on my phone as much.
It felt good to not think about work or how I was going to tackle my professional goals!
This blog is your reminder to take those days off.
As we all know, we are still in shelter in place and there is still a pandemic going on. If your health conditions allow for it and if you’re taking necessary precautions, I highly suggest traveling out of town to take a break. It’s well worth it, especially in a time where we’re all stuck at home. Even if you travel to a city an hour out, it’s still nice to wake up somewhere different.
Funtivities in or near Lake Tahoe
Secret Cove Beach – We hiked down to Secret Cove Beach in Carson City. It was packed on the main beach so we avoided it. When I say packed, I mean PACKED. Like it reminded me of the Miami beaches disregarding SIP. We veered and walked a little more to the side of the beach where it was more quiet and less people. We found a secluded area where we could climb down to the water. You definitely have to be careful and not fall off the cliff. We also made sure to wear our mask while hiking and passing people. Besides it being packed, this beach is beautiful. I journaled on the side of the cliff while wave watching. It’s a nude beach, so don’t be surprised if you see people roaming around in their birthday suite lol.
Lake Aloha Trailhead – If you’re down for a long and challenging hike, but with amazing views, definitely hike the Lake Aloha Trailhead at Echo Lake. My family hiked about 8 miles and rocky mountains along 3 lakes. You have to be careful, as always, but it was beautiful. It wasn’t too busy, but we passed some other backpackers and hikers along the trails. Again, we had our masks while hiking. I highly recommend! The pictures speak for themselves.
Shop my looks
I wore my Nike set while hiking which was super comfortable. My biker shorts were seamless and it didn’t roll into my skin. Although the material was thick, it was still very breathable.
Also, all of the pictures on this blog post were captured on my Sony A5100. I love this camera. The coolest feature is that you can send the pictures directly to your phone. It’s a great travel camera for vlogging and taking photos.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Take a break. Disconnect. Rejuvenate.
Love this! And yesss I definitely am awaiting my next road trip vacay to disconnect. So necessary.
Agreed! Everyone needs time to recharge.
